Elementary School Antics

My youngest daughter, who is in 5th grade, comes home from school with some very amusing tales. There is one little boy that drives her crazy and appears in a lot of them. With a very annoyed look on her face, she says, “you will NEVER guess what he did today… ”

Annoyed Face Pictures, Images and Photos

Supposedly, this boy decided to create a new event during recess. He proceeded to yell out, “It’s Weiner Whacker Wednesday!” The look on her face as she told me this was PRICELESS! I laughed so hard, I almost fell out of my chair. This little boy had taken his antics above and beyond! He ended up in the principal’s office and all the boys had to be called in from recess.

I could picture in my mind all the boys holding themselves for protection and running to class for safety. I have to admit to being surprised a boy would come up with this activity! Did he not realize that he was a boy and would be inflicting pain upon himself or was that the point? I’m not sure I want to know the answer that might accompany that question…

When all the children came back in from recess, the teachers had to sit them down and explain why this was bad behavior. They explained that this would not be tolerated in school and that disciplinary actions would be enforced, if they pursued this activity. I thought they handled the situation remarkably well and they have not had further incident.

My first instinct was to laugh, but further thought made me wonder. The question to ponder still is how he came up with this idea. Is this just a boy being a boy or is it something deeper? Is it attention or detriment that he seeks? I think it was innocent, but one never knows…

Thoughtfully yours,

Sophie Grumble

  1. How funny! My youngest told me this story about a month ago and I planned to write about it then. I knew this topic needed to be handled with care. I’m still leaning on the “boys being boys” side. Lol

  2. Too Funny and mortifying at the same time. Reminds me a fella in Jr High while we were in our PE period mooned several cars as they drove by. In Daylight. A mom went into the school and he was eventually ratted out by one of the more trustworthy George Washington types in our class. We didn’t see him again for awhile.
