You know you can’t write about the 80s and neglect the hair bands. I loved listening to this music and watching the videos on MTV (remember when they actually showed videos?) It always made me laugh when mom walked in the room and yelled, “Turn that noise off!” Believe it or not, I was grounded from listening to this music when I got into trouble. (Yes, it was quite often…) Fond memories…
Urban Dictionary describes this glam rock as:
6. …a genre of music commonly known as ‘hair metal.’ The music was well known in the 80’s, and characterized by: all of the band members having extremely long hair, usually high pitched male vocals, and heavy, piercing, distorted guitars. Some examples of bands include; “dokken”, “firehouse”, and “white lion”
DUDE! “white lion” was definitely a hair band man.
Here are some of the great bands that made this style of music famous. You have to see the hair in action, so I have attached a few videos for your enjoyment. These are in no particular order…
Guns ‘N Roses I totally dug the bandana look! I wore them throughout the 80s, just differently…
Def Leppard I used to have the biggest crush on Joe Elliot! =D
Bon Jovi This was my favorite hair band! They are in my Ipod! =D
Twisted Sister This guy used to creep me out a little. lol
This music was all about being rebellious. From the BIG hair to the lyrics in the music, it didn’t miss a beat when it came to rebellion. The 80s teenager (that includes me) was that way. Now that I am a parent, I’m not so sure I want this to come back… lol
