80s Movies: The Year Was 1983! Part II

Now, where were we… (See Part I) Ah! Here are the cinema honorable mentions of this great year.

25. Twilight Zone — The Movie (Warner Bros. Pictures) starring Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks, Scatman Crothers, John Lithgow, Vic Morrow and Kathleen Quinlan. Fantasy-science fiction horror

I like a movie that makes me jump! This movie will make that happen for you! Remember the famous series episode with William Shatner? Here is John Lithgow’s take on that same sketch. Both men do an excellent job! =D

28. The Outsiders (Warner Bros. Pictures) starring C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise and Leif Garrett. Drama

I had to read this S.E. Hinton book in junior high. I did not like reading SCHOOL books and then seeing the movie, but I made an exception here. The all star cast is amazing in this film. One of my favorite 80s films.

33. The Right Stuff (Warner Bros. Pictures) starring Fred Ward, Dennis Quaid, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Sam Shepard, Barbara Hershey, Lance Henriksen, Veronica Cartwright, Jane Dornacker, Harry Shearer, Jeff Goldblum and Kim Stanley. Drama

A great astronaut movie about the Mercury Seven. If you like movies that are based upon true events, this is your film!

34. Cujo (Warner Bros. Pictures) starring Dee Wallace, Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh-Kelly, Christopher Stone and Ed Lauter. Horror/thriller

Stephen King knows how to scare people out of their seats! He succeeded in making me jump out of mine with this rabid dog!

35. Christine (Columbia Pictures) starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Robert Prosky and Harry Dean Stanton. Horror/thriller

Stephen King frightens us again, but this time with a 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine! =O

39. A Christmas Story (MGM) starring Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon. Christmas comedy

Ralphie and his pursuit for a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas is a riot! It has become a family favorite at my home. I highly recommend this film!!

41. Valley Girl (Orion Pictures) starring Nicolas Cage, Deborah Foreman, Michelle Meyrink and Elizabeth Daily. Romantic Comedy

This beloved film had popular catch phrases as “Gag me with a spoon” and “Like totally!” The soundtrack is pretty awesome as well!

42. All the Right Moves (20th Century Fox) starring Tom Cruise, Craig T. Nelson and Lea Thompson. Drama

As far as teen movies go, this high school football film is a must see! This is Tom Cruise at his best.

45. Richard Pryor Here and Now (Columbia Pictures) stand up comedy

Richard Pryor is a comedian who is often vulgar and profane. If you like this kind of entertainment, he will not disappoint…

48. Cheech & Chong’s Still Smokin’ (Paramount Pictures) starring Cheech Marin, Thomas Chong, Hans Van In’t Veld, Carol van Herwijnen and Shireen Strooker. Comedy/music

The state of Washington recently passed the marijuana law… I can’t help but think these guys would be so proud! LOL

49. Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (Universal Pictures) starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. Musical/sketch comedy

This movie is hysterical, but I grossed out at this scene. The look on this guys face was comparable to mine! This sketch stood out for me. How could it not?

50. Educating Rita (Columbia Pictures) starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters. Drama/comedy

This is about a working class girl wanting to better herself with the help of this professor. Who ends up helping who in this award winning film?

70. The Man With Two Brains (Warner Brothers) starring Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner. Science fiction comedy

Steve Martin is an absolute riot in this film! With a name like Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr, how could it not be FUNNY? =D

77. Strange Brew (MGM) starring Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Max von Sydow, Paul Dooley and Lynne Griffin. Comedy

The Canadian McKenzie brothers will have you saying, “Eh!” and laughing out loud before this film is done! Cheech & Chong are smokin’, but Bob and Doug are all about the beer! Eh!

I hope you have enjoyed this preview into some of the great films of 1983. Get your popcorn, candy and soda ready. Pick some of these wonderful classics and have yourself a movie night. Enjoy!
